Your Advanced Response Skill Set (FEMA IS)

If you’ve completed your foundational NIMS courses (IS 100/200/700), it’s time to build the functional skills needed for EOC assignments, logistical coordination, and supervisory roles.

This specialized training separates responders from managers.

1. Command Center Operations (EOC & IAP)

These courses teach you the framework used to manage incidents from the strategic level, ensuring consistent, standardized action.

  • IS 2200: Basic Emergency Operations Center Functions
  • G/K2300: Intermediate Emergency Operations Center Functions (State/Local Classroom)
  • IS 201: Forms Used for the Development of the Incident Action Plan (IAP)

2. The Supervisory Mandate (Advanced ICS)

These courses are mandatory for anyone moving into a Section Chief, Branch Director, or Command Staff position. They are challenging, high-value, and usually Instructor-Led (Classroom-based).

  • ICS 300: Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents
  • ICS 400: Advanced Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents

3. Logistics & Supply Chain Resilience

Learn how to manage the essential flow of resources—the backbone of any successful response operation.

  • IS 238: Critical Concepts of Supply Chain Flow and Resilience
  • IS 26: Guide to Points of Distribution (PODs)

✅ Your Next Step

The IS courses are free and self-paced online. The ICS 300/400 and G/K courses are usually delivered by your state or county emergency management agency. Start researching their schedules now, as those classes fill up quickly!
